53rd Anniversary of the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire
Take a visit back in history with your children at this family Friendly annual event
I was invited to attend the Faire and provided passes to facilitate my review. All Opinions and Photos are my own.
I must say we have been looking forward to this years Renaissance Faire since lasts years. I just love everything about it, from the actors to the magnificent wardrobe to the live shows. The moment you walk into the gates you are transported back in time and greeted by every sort of subject, character and vendor alike. We went dressed last year, mine was a costume I had since college and my daughters was a ready made dress. This year an upgrade was in need, I found a wonderful local place online, Majestic Velvets, to make our gowns. Picking one was difficult since they have so many beautiful options to choose from. With dresses delivered we set out on our adventure for the day.
The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire has not always been, lets say entirely kid friendly. This has all changed with the addition of the Kids Kingdom, Tea with the Queen and crafts for the young ones. Last year was my daughters first experience and she loved it and all the attention she got from the actors and event visitors alike. This year was no different.
If you are planning on attending this years faire here are a few tips/info.
- Wear comfortable shoes/the paths are mostly dirt.
- Cash is king at the faire though many merchants do take credit cards
- Buy your tickets in advance to save time at the box office.
- There is a pre-opening show at the entrance of the faire, starts 15 minuets before doors open.
- Keep hydrated, it can get hot
- Check the daily schedule to map out your day and which shows you want to see
Just some of the activities for the entire family to enjoy:
- Stage Shows
- Live Music
- Crafts for Children
- Rides and much. much more!
And if you don't have a costume, they rent them right there on the spot or there are vendors who sell everything you will need. It's not necessary to go in costume but it makes for a richer more memorable experience.
So brush up on ye olde English and go to the faire!
Everything is at your own pace and the faire is large and spread out making for a good chance to enjoy everything without becoming overwhelmed and over crowded.
There are several activities for both boys and girls and the actors are extremely friendly, patient and helpful.
You have the option to come and go throughout the day if needed, just simply get your hand stamped at the gate.
The faire is visually stimulating but no loud noises. It truly is a place of wonder for my girl who interacted with so many visitors as well as the actors alike.
Please visit the Faire website for info on each weekends special events and check out Walgreens for discounted tickets. Again I would recommend purchasing in advance. Parking at the Santa Fe Dam is $10.00 and VIP parking is an additional $20.00
I would suggest looking at the schedule of events on the day you plan on attending if there is something in particular you are interested in seeing or taking part in.
I would like to thank the kind people of the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire for having us as their guests and for providing such an amazing and evolving family friendly atmosphere for us to enjoy. This was our second year in a row attending and look forward to many more.
The Faire is open now weekends through May 17th
Huzzah and long live the Queen!
I also want to thank Suzie of Majestic Velvets for her help with our dresses this year.
