With the rainy weather in Southern California parents everywhere are trying to find things to do with their kids indoors. I was so glad to be invited to check out the Wonder of Dinosaurs at the West Covina Mall. I live in the area so it was perfect for a rainy day. When you get to the West Covina Mall park by the Sears and the Wonder of Dinosaur is on the second floor just past the arcade.
My son loves dinosaurs as any kid would, but I was still nervous to see how he would do with the robotic dinosaurs. When you arrive you will enter the store and pay the fee. The attendant will hand you a slip that your family can answer questions for price while walking through the museum part. My son was not interested so I didn't push this, but I think my oldest would really like trying to figure out the answers. The robotic dinosaurs are towards the back so you can ease your child into this. My son was hesitant at first, but we took our time and told him they were not real. The nice thing is that the mix of dinosaurs were nice so we focused on the herbivores first and then he was comfortable in looking at the omnivores. The dinosaurs moves and make sounds also.
As you can see from the video there is a cool maze that your kids will have fun with. I recommend if you have little to not let them go alone, but bigger kids will have fun finding their way. I let my son lead and he was proud of himself that he figured it out.
The golfing in the video I thought was more suited for older kids as my son doesn't know how to hold the club and where to hit the ball. He still liked it, but didn't last long.
Oh and the jumping, jumping, jumping!!!!! My son went crazy jumping everywhere. Make sure your child has socks and look at the signs for the height requirements and rules. There are different jumpers around that your child will want to test out. This is perfect to getting them tired and ready for a nap.
Included with admission are rides with dinosaurs! This was a favorite for everyone. Your child climbs aboard the dinosaur, you buckle them in, and the attendant will turn it on. The dinosaur will move its head, arms, body and tail. The ride is a good length and you can do this over and over again.
There is another dinosaur that your child can ride, but this one moves! You and your child will enter and your child will sit and control the dinosaur. The dinosaur will stop automatically once the time is up.
A fun activity was digging for fossils. Your child can use his hands or brush provided to uncover the dinosaur fossil below. Teach your child that a fossil is something left from a living thing that lived long ago that has turned into rock. There are chairs nearby for parents to sit if your child decides to spend a long time in this area, plus free wifi from the mall!
A favorite was searching for shark teeth. Kids use their hands to search through rocks trying to find these shark teeth. They get to keep two shark teeth and all the rocks they can fit in the bag provided.
For an additional charge your child can get their face painted with a dinosaur of their choosing. They did an amazing job with it and we received lots of compliments. Depending on the style you choose the face painting can take time so plan accordingly.
We went around once completely and some favorites we did two to three times. He was tired after which was a win for me when he took a nap at home!
Does your child love dinosaurs and which activity are you looking forward to at Wonder of Dinosaurs?
