We were invited to celebrate the changeover of one section of Pretend City- the Pretend Cafe´- into Pizza 900. The Pretend Cafe´ offers kids a chance to create their own meals in the kitchen and serve it to guests in a restaurant style environment. For this makeover into the Pizza 900 restaurant, little chefs can put on an apron or a chefs hat and create their own pretend pizza! Just like the real Pizza 900 restaurant, there is even a "wood fire" stove in which to place the pizzas. This is pretend play at its finest! My four year old absolutely had a blast creating her own pizza and serving it to me in the cafe´ dining area. The dining area housed several tables and even some cardboard boxes for orders to go.Read More

We were recently invited to Pretend City in Irvine to see their new exhibit Ultimate Recycling Machine.
We were put in groups, given supplies and then challenged to build a roller coaster golf course. I work in construction and my kids think I actually build things so my son thought this was going to be a breeze for us. The pressure was on! At first we all seemed kind of lost and the kids ran around bringing all kids of materials. When I was overwhelmed with all the materials I put the kids to work on organizing the materials. That is when the creative juices came flowing! The kids started coming up with ideas, we settled on one, and got to work!
Then we tested and tested and tested! We had to make minor modifications and the kids succeeded! The smiles on their faces that they had built something themselves and it worked said it all. They felt accomplished!
Then it was nice for me to just sit back and watch them play with their creation. I think I have two engineers in my future!

We love being invited to spend a few hours at Pretend City. If you have never been it's a full hands on museum in Irvine that caters to younger kids ages 0 to 8. Pretend City is also very user friendly to kiddos on the spectrum, boasting sensory fixes at every turn. If you have never been or heard of this place it's a city sized for kids. There is everything you would expect to find in a typical neighborhood. There is a bank, grocery store, library and even a garden area to name a few of the exhibits. It's a bit of a drive for us but one of my daughters favorite places to play. With featured exhibits, special events and a room to hold private birthday parties, your time at the museum will always be filled with learning, fun, personal discovery and growth.
