Ride into the past June 14-15 on the Big Red Cars of the Pacific Electric Railway. Pacific Electric was once America's largest interurban electric railway system, blanketing the Los Angeles region with more than 1,000 miles of rail lines. This year marks 100 years since Pacific Electric opened service in San Bernardino and Riverside and places in between.
Saturday June 14 will also be the 15th Annual Rods & Rails Extravaganza and Historic Potato Festival at Orange Empire Railway Museum. The dual events take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Rods & Rails will feature more than 150 classic cars from the 1920s to 1970s. Sponsored by the City of Perris, the event features entertainment, games, live music and contests for the whole family including historical Western reenactment. Admission to Rods & Rails and the railway museum grounds is free.
Bring Dad on Sunday, June 15 to the annual Father's Day BBQ. A delicious lunch will be served from noon until 2 p.m. On the menu for the day will be barbecued chicken, baked beans, corn on the cob, potato salad, coleslaw, cornbread, and cherry cobbler. Price for the barbecue lunch will be $12 for adults and $8 for children.
